I’m originally from the UK but currently living in Melbourne where I indulge in great coffee on a daily basis, care for my two young children, and write for the love of it!
A selection of my favourite books are…
Welcome to Rosie Hopkins’ Sweetshop of Dreams & The Little Beach Street Bakery by Jenny Colgan (among many others of hers)
The Tudor Series by Philippa Gregory
A Christmas Carol and Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens
Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen
Why Mummy Drinks by Gill Sims (makes me giggle)
Some stories I can’t wait to share with my children are…
The Magic Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton
The Secret Garden and A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett
The Roald Dahl collection
The Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis
‘Twas the Night Before Christmas by Clement Clarke Moore
In the UK – I think they’re all equally beautiful, but Autumn is pretty special – those colours!
In Melbourne – whenever the mercury is consistently below 20˚C (so not too often then!)
Lemon, pink, aqua
Kindness is free – so freely give it
Favourite piece of music:
The Piano Guys’ instrumental of A Thousand Years – we played this during our wedding ceremony and it beautifully reflects how I feel about my husband
A woman I admire is:
Audrey Hepburn – a beautiful, talented humanitarian
I wish I could:
Sing and dance
If I had a magic power it would be…
The ability to clean the house without so much as lifting a finger
Family, friends, reading, writing, travel, painting & crafts, cooking & baking, interior design, fashion, health & fitness, theatre, history
Food. I am a MASSIVE sweet tooth, and my total lack of willpower in this regard has been the bane of my life!
Global warming, and basically every insect or spider to ever crawl/fly the earth
Queue jumpers, dangerous drivers, inequality, injustice, exploitative reality TV, sexual objectification in the media, impossible beauty standards, people getting left out or excluded by others, conversations that aren’t reciprocal; and the ever-pervasive household crumbs and clutter that are determined to keep building up despite my best efforts to keep them at bay!
Best ways to relax:
Sleep, lie-ins, beauty treatments (massage, hair, nails), a good book, a movie, a big bar of chocolate (or almond croissant or apple Danish), couch cuddles with the husband and kids, walking, gym, leisurely brunches & lunches, and getting together with family and friends.
Some things you might be surprised to learn about me are…
I’m a practicing Christian, I’m obsessively clean about the house (which is somewhat difficult to achieve when your toddler and young baby thwart your efforts at every turn), it was once my dream to travel the world as cabin crew but a poorly thought-out tattoo and true love scuppered my chances, I love cats but I’m allergic to animal fur, I seem to be about the only expat I’ve met who still misses home like crazy; and if I wasn’t a writer I would have liked to try my hand at interior design instead.
Usually to be found…
If I’m not looking after the children, manically cleaning up after ‘the enemies’ (crumbs), or stuffing my face with sweets; I’m in one of my favourite cafés with only my laptop, imagination, and a medium skinny latte for company…
